Microsoft, along with partner Techstars, has begun a program to boost the output of Kinect applications by offering a full package of goodies to ten hand-chosen development firms.

The international giant is planning on bring all ten of those firms out to their campus in Redmond, WA for three months to familiarize them with the development process for the system. Those chosen for the program will also get an Xbox development kit, a Kinect SDK, and a solid 20,000 to get things rolling.

In the beginning, Kinect did not get very good reviews and was a little buggy. However, it did sell well for what it is, so now that Microsoft knows that they can make a profit from it, they want to get some serious support behind it. According to their site, these are the things that qualify to the "Accelerator Program":

Any Kinect-enabled application on Windows or Xbox that can be a commercial business
Manufacturing to retail, education to healthcare, art installations to gaming, social to interactive play…hmmm, the possibilities
Can be cloud-hosted, on any platform, but needs to be an application
Could be one view of an application that may also have a web UI, mobile UI, etc
Kinect-controlled applications, like what you have on your phone, but on a big screen or a computer screen
Content you might expect to consume in your living room or in an operating room

Microsoft is pushing to have developers come up with ideas foe Kinect out side of the realm of gaming, which could definitely be a possibility considering the sensitivity and control precision that the platform offers. According to Microsoft, the deadline for applications is January 25, 2012 so go ahead and get your applications in if this seems like a fit for you.
