Most of the talents an app developer learns on his journey to releasing an application, has little to do with security. Learning the tools necessary just to create an app is extensive enough, let alone having the knowledge to make these apps secure. This is where the blossoming relationship between IT professionals and developers enters into the equation.

Richard Tychansky, an information assurance engineer at Lockheed Martin Corp., states the need of IT and developers working together, "Developers often don't understand the security standards and requirements that need to be addressed in developing software" he continues, "My role is to show them how they can apply these recommended standards and best practices in their program."

Applications have the potential to leave open massive holes to allow for malicious content to seep through. As apps grow, the attention given by hackers will continue to swell.

For security experts, this bridging of development and security is going to be a huge boon. On average, app developers make $93,000/years while security professionals make $78,000/year. As more substantiated companies enter the world of app development, they'll have more money to hire on security experts who have know-how in releasing secure apps.

The problem many IT experts face is gaining the knowledge of development and being able to recognize code. Which is why you need to invest heavily in education if you plan to move towards app security. Learning Java and .NET are good starting points as many apps use these languages.

On the flip side, developers should keep in constant contact with security experts when developing an app. Especially if it's for an employer or a client. If you hire someone to create an app and it gets exploited; the results aren't going to provide the creator a good reputation.

The worlds of IT and app development are so different that the challenge lies in meshing them together. According to a study, only 22 percent of the IT respondents were involved in software development. However, this number represents an increase, which looks to keep growing in the future.

The world of application development continues to grow at levels unseen before. As it expands, keep in mind the security risks your app(s) poses. Then find solutions either through education, or teaming up with a security expert. To do nothing is too great a risk.
