App development at its current phase is all about knowing programming languages. C++, Objective-C, Java, are examples of languages one must learn in order to create a successful mobile app. What if this weren't the case? What if knowing HTML, CSS, and other web related languages was all it took to create a mobile app? With tools such as mobile cloud computing, and HTML5, this could be the direction the industry is headed.

The only way to really access an app is to go through the process of browsing through a native platform, such as the App Store or Android Market. That or jail breaking your handset. With mobile cloud computing, the need for downloading from one of the stores could fade into the background. However, it wouldn't necessarily kill it entirely.

Hosting an app through the cloud presents a long list of possibilities. For developers, it eliminates the struggles of getting an app approved and finally submitted to their store of choice. Instead, it would all be in the power of the developer. Control along those lines is a valuable commodity.

Beyond control, mobile based apps would allow for more people to get in on the action. More people have knowledge concerning web based technologies than programming. HTML5 would be a huge key in progressing the movement forward, as it has a few capabilities that would greatly benefit from mobile cloud computing.

While there is a long list of positives associated with the mobile cloud, there area few hindrances setting it back. First is the need for higher levels of network latency, which would require users to free up network connections.

The need for a more powerful connection would also lead to functionality issues. More network heavy apps would be a problem when accessing a connection. Hence the need for keeping native apps around as well.

The numbers don't lie, and according to a recent forecast, revenues from cloud-based mobile apps are supposed to increase to around $9.5 billion in 2014. This would represent a monumental increase from just $400 million in 2009.

Web development, and cloud computing continue to improve and grow in popularity. Microsoft is sponsoring a contest based around HTML5, looking for games and music apps using the web language. It makes one wonder if contestants will think outside the box and create a mobile app. It certainly would be an interesting way to help boost the trend.
